A Tribute to Morris Stancil, his life (75 years 2018), his music, and to introduce his new song book “Because He Loved Me”, featuring The Best Loved Songs of Morris Stancil and new compositions (published by L. David Young Music Co.). The name Morris Stancil is synonymous with Old Time Gospel Singing – with his songs appearing in many Class Singing books across the years. Most readers probably know some of his songs without even being aware that he is the composer. His musical talent and works have woven a thread of Christian commitment and praise through song over the past half century – an ordained thread, that thrives in the hearts of gospel music followers.
“I would tell young people today to follow their calling. If they for sure know that God is wanting them to do something, then they need to do it. Financially, they may not get rich, but they’ll be paid many times over by blessings . . .” excerpt from Foreword of new book.
Ticket purchasers will receive this book free of charge at the end of the singing. Morris will be in the Playhouse Library to personally hand you an originally signed copy of his book. The customary sales price of the book is $8.00 and it is Morris’s choice to gift the book to you in appreciation for your attendance and support through the years.
Also performing will be the David Young Family, which includes David Young, wife- Colleen, Terri, Mike Young and wife- Cheri, Maribeth, Patti Lyn and Ami along with David and Colleen’s grandchildren and the vocal group.

Justin Terry will also perform. He saw success with the Cross4Crowns Quartet including several nationally charting radio singles and national award nominations. Regarded as one of the top bass singers in gospel music, his first album, “Inspired” received rave reviews. His first single, “Love Song” spent several months on the charts. His album, ”Countryfied”, has sold on five continents and had two charting singles, including “Forever”, which spent nine months on the charts. He is working on his fourth album and touring extensively. You can find Justin in concert across the country at fairs, festivals, theatres and churches.
Morris Stancil, is of course the featured performer – the Honoree. You will hear old songs of years gone by and be invited to sing along and then introduced to some of Morris’s new compositions appearing in the book.
While this tribute is in honor of Morris Stancil, it also brings to mind the impact of Gospel Music in this community and throughout the south – reminding us of the part it has played in the minds and hearts of young and old alike. It is as much of the history of this area as any other single factor. It has followed the people through life, through wars, through financial depressions, through societal changes, the good times and bad times while maintaining the promise of a faith that sustains through it all.
Come be with us!
