September 6 – 30, T,F,S 8pm , Sun. 3PM Mat

Playright Productions once again returns to the Cumming Playhouse with the all time favorite and most attended show of the Cumming Playhouse – Smoke on the Mountain. Yes, this is the original group and when you see them you will feel as if they are returning home. They seem as happy about coming back as we are to have them come! Some things just can’t be improved upon and Playright Productions presentation of Smoke on the Mountain is a fine example.

So everyone start thinking about September 2012 – the date has moved a little later in the year this time – so get your group together - church, social or just your entire family – or come by yourself - you won’t feel alone at this show! It is the one to put on your calendar.

Smoke on the Mountain is an Off-Broadway musical that was written by Alan Bailey and Connie Ray. It was originally work shopped at the McCarter Theatre in 1988, given a full staging at the McCarter in 1990, and was subsequently moved by the McCarter to Lamb's Theatre in New York City, New York in 1990 and had 475 performances. The Lamb's revived it in 1998.

The name of the musical comes from Psalm 104:32: "He who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke" (Psalm 104:32). Smoke on the Mountain is one of the most produced shows worldwide.

Book was written by Connie Ray, conceived and directed by Alan Bailey. The songs used in the production are mostly old hymns. The setting is in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina Baptist church in 1938 and it revolves around the Sanders family.

Let us take you back to a simpler time, 1938, where you become the congregation of Mount Pleasant Church. The ever-endearing Sanders Family will delight you with some of the best old gospel tunes ever written.
